St George Bank Key Facts

On 15 February , 2011, in Mortgage lenders, by Michael Lee

St.George Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of Westpac.

With perhaps one of the strongest connections to home loans and residential investment loans, St George was founded in 1937 as a housing based financial institution.

From that point, St.George went on to build a solid reputation as one of Australia’s most prominent building societies, before switching it’s non-profit approach and becoming a bank in July 1992.

St.George states that it’s key strategy is harnessing the potential in the franchise and building on its strengths and capabilities.

St George is recognised as one of the first major institutions to embrace a female CEO. Gail Kelly took on the CEO role in St George before going on a few years later to take up the reigns of Westpac and oversee the Westpac take over of the smaller bank.
